Usage Scenarios are natural extensions of user persona research and they are invaluable in guiding the requirements and design for your digital product’s user interface. We research usage scenarios through observation, contextual inquiries, interviews and workshops with end users, customers and clients of your organisation.
Each usage scenario details specific actions or tasks that individuals will perform as they interact with your software user interface.
They will:
- Reveal relationships between individual tasks and activities
- Isolate the potential impact of the user’s environment on the intended goals for using the software
- Identify not just what actions users take, but also the context of use – such as how, where, when and with what motivation they take those actions

Usage Scenarios are often delivered as a story board and descriptive tools that help bring the scenario to life during the design process. To keep the end user and customer front and center when design trade-offs are decided upon.
